Obituary for Agnes Reierson

Agnes Mildred Reierson

1914 - 2018

In loving memory of our dear aunt who passed away peacefully February 2nd at the Extendicare Michener Hill in Red Deer, Alberta.

Agnes was born March 13, 1914 the second youngest of 7 children to Norwegian homesteaders Marie (Rolfshus) and Tollef Reierson in their farm home near Scotsguard, Saskatchewan. Agnes attended Coal Valley School, then Scotsguard School and Shaunavon Schools. She was confirmed in the Salem Lutheran Church in Shaunavon. Agnes studied Nursing at the Regina General Hospital and after graduation continued on in a supervisory position. Her nursing career took her to Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver. She returned to Shaunavon to help her mother care for her father and also worked part - time at the Shaunavon Clinic. Following her father’s death, Agnes and her mother lived in Calgary for 16 years. In 1969 she and her mother moved to Swift Current to live with Agnes’ sister Mable (Knutson). After the death of her mother and the sudden death of her sister, Agnes returned to her beloved Calgary. Agnes’ home in Calgary was a family hub. She welcomed everyone for delicious meals and overnight stays. Our favourites were the home cooked roasts and Parkerhouse rolls. We will never forget her prairie generosity. Years later she moved to Edmonton to be closer to her sister Betsy and family, then in 2003 to Red Deer to be near her nephew Graeme and his family. Agnes loved to visit the mountains but only for a few days – she was a prairie girl at heart. She treasured her memories of the family association with the Norwegian Lutheran Church in Scotsguard, and the many friends and relatives from Coal Valley, Scotsguard and Shaunavon. Agnes will be buried beside her beloved parents in Shaunavon on June 9, 2018. Her family would like to thank the staff at the Extendicare Michener Hill Unit 1300 and at the Pines Lodge also in Red Deer for their kind and loving care of our dear aunt.
